Vancouver Fashion Week SS2018 – Fashion Illustrations by Karlie Carpentier Rosin

The first time I went to Vancouver Fashion Week was in Fall 2016, and I returned in Spring 2017.

Actually, I officially launched my Art Instagram account during the Spring edition of Vancouver Fashion Week in March 2016 FW2017.

This was the 2nd time I went, and I painted a few traditional fashion illustrations as a digital surprise gift on Instagram for fashion designers such as Atelier Valéria Costa, Moskal Designs and Bahareh Memarian.

At that point, I started loving it so much that I wanted to be involved in the upcoming seasons.

I love art (I know, big surprise!) but I also love design, makeup, fashion, beauty, creativity… and I get very excited when it’s time for Fashion Week! When I lived in Montreal I volunteered a few times there for Montreal Fashion Week and it was quite sad when they stopped producing it.

At least they do have this great runway show in the summer called the Fashion & Design Festival (which I actually modeled for in the finishing act one year… but that’s a whole other story)

Anyway, you can imagine that when I moved to Vancouver and discovered Vancouver Fashion Week, I was ecstatic!!

Thankfully the Universe heard me out: here we are, for Fall 2017, showcasing looks for Spring Summer 2018 Fashion, and I’ve had the pleasure of officially working with Vancouver Fashion Week as their illustrator creating content for their social accounts!!

It was such a wonderful experience.

I worked closely with them to paint fashion illustrations of 6 chosen designers in order to highlight one of their runway looks. My digital mixed media illustrations were then posted the day after the runway show on social media and used as content for Vancouver Fashion Week.

The designers included Charly Thorn, King & Reign, Oloh, Srishti Kaur Designs, Mezis and Mrhua Mrshua.

The experience was even better because I was able to attend a few shows and really get immersed in the designer’s creations with the styling, choreography, videography, music choice, makeup artistry, hair, and even the crowd- which added an extra level of inspiration to my creations.

Adding illustrations to your content is a great way to diversify your posts and to add some emphasis on an event or product that you want to translate to your followers.

It was a great hit on the Vancouver Fashion Week social media channels- here’s what they had to say:

“It was great to mix in another art form into our social media channels, and to highlight a few of the runway looks through art.  The pieces Karlie created really captured the garments, and her technique is flawless. We look forward to working with her again in the future.” -Robyn Meeres, Partnership Coordinator & Backstage Manager at VFW

Vancouver Fashion Week Illustrations stand out on social media

The social media and media / partnership coordinators were fantastic to work with and I can’t wait for what is to come next :)

I got such wonderful feedback about my fashion illustrations from many including designers, models, photographers, organizers of VFW, as well as fans, spectators and people from the fashion industry in general.

Below are a few quotes from them as well as images of my illustrations. It was so nice to see so many people feeling happy to receive my artwork – so much support! It’s such a thrill to love what you do, and to see others loving it too!

It was also very rewarding to be able to use my talent to showcase other  people’s talents as well.

Being inspired by other talented creators is one of my favorite aspects of this opportunity. Thanks everyone!

“Seeing my designs walk the runway and then seeing the beautiful sketch, took me right back to the design process in my mind. It made me appreciate how far I have come and how hard I have worked for this opportunity. Karlie’s drawing took the outfit to a whole new level and really made me remember how much I love creating beautiful things.” –Charly Thorn, Founder and Designer of Charly Thorn

“We discovered Karlie’s Artwork on the VFW Instagram account and we thought her illustrations looked amazing! Seeing two of our models showcased on VFW through her art was truly special, and it made them stand out even more. Karlie’s work is very fresh and contemporary- she showed a lot of creativity and technique through these illustrations. We look forward to working together in the near future!” Dayna Lonquist, Creative Director at League Models Agency

“I’m new and not based out of Vancouver so when I saw Karlie’s illustrations, it made me feel really welcomed here! Of course, it was a super fantastic experience to have Karlie draw my garments. The experience and the illustrations were fabulous and her work process was beautiful!” –Inae Sung, Founder and Designer of OLOH

The whole creation process was so much fun with these beautiful looks by talented designers. There are many more that inspired me that I could have painted! To create this series of illustrations I used mixed media techniques, which is something I do quite often in my art. I use traditional medium textures like watercolor, acrylic, pencil or marker to name a few and mix that with digital painting and photo manipulation in Photoshop.

The Vancouver Fashion Week illustrations turned out a great success and now that VFW have gone global with their Global Fashion Collective and I will work with them again to paint some more fashion illustrations for their first international show in Tokyo- Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo.

Here are a few behind the scenes, closeups and works in progress as a little treat before you take off :) thanks for your time and feel free to reach out if you feel inspired, if you’d like to work with me – or simply just to say hi!

Have a great day!
